'Cloud Atlas' Opens to Critics' Praise, Bewilderment: Movie Times in West Des Moines

Century 20 Jordan Creek and XD has four daily showings.

Cloud Atlas, the much anticipated sci-fi epic from acclaimed filmmakers Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer, and Andy Wachowski, opens nationwide today. In West Des Moines, it’s showing at the multi-plex theater at Jordan Creek Town Center.

The film – which features A-listers Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant and Susan Sarandon among its ensemble cast – explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future.

Once you've seen the movie, give us a short review in the comments. Worth the hype?

Critics are raving, if somewhat mystified. A Wall Street Journal blogger said “the movie is something else, although exactly what is tricky to say …” A headline on Huffington Post said, “Cloud Atlas Says Little But Does So Beautifully.”

Roger Ebert gave it 4 stars:

“... What a film this is! And what a demonstration of the magical, dreamlike qualities of the cinema. And what an opportunity for the actors. And what a leap by the directors, who free themselves from the chains of narrative continuity. And then the wisdom of the old man staring into the flames makes perfect sense.”

Century 20 Jordan Creek and XD has daily showings at 11 a.m., 2:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 10 p.m.
