DART introduces new route to Pleasant Hill and east-side Broadlawns Medical Center clinic

New route will be free to ride through December 31

A new DART bus route will go into effect on Monday, November 21, serving East University Avenue and providing all-day service to Pleasant Hill. The new Route 10 will be free to ride through December 31.

Broadlawns Medical Center and DART worked together to add Route 10, which will service the new Broadlawns clinic on East University, set to open November 28. The route will be free to ride through December 31 to establish a base ridership and familiarize Broadlawns patients with the new route.

“Having access to public transportation is a significant consideration for our patients,” said Jody Jenner, President and CEO of Broadlawns Medical Center. “When you are not feeling well or have a physical injury or disability, it becomes even more significant. DART worked with us to establish a route that expanded access to public transportation in the eastern corridor of Polk County, and this will correspondingly enable us to improve access to healthcare services for our community.”

The new Route 10 – East University goes into effect on Monday, November 21 as part of a DART service change:

  • NEW Local Route 10 – East University: Route will serve Pleasant Hill and the new Broadlawns clinic at 2508 East University in Des Moines (which opens November 28) all-day from 6:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. The route will run approximately every 30 minutes in the morning and afternoons. Midday service will be hourly. The new route will be free to ride through December 31, 2016.
  • NEW Park & Ride in Pleasant Hill: Route 10 will service a new Park & Ride location in the Copper Creek area in Pleasant Hill. Buses will pick up and drop off on Little Fourmile Creek Drive.
  • Local Route 1 – Fairgrounds: The Pleasant Hill trips from the Route 1 will be removed from the schedule and incorporated into the new Route 10. The frequency on Route 1 will be reduced from 15-minute service to 30-minute service during the morning and afternoon commutes.

“We are thrilled to partner with Broadlawns to offer this additional service,” said DART’s CEO Elizabeth Presutti. “In addition to helping people get to and from the new Broadlawns clinic, Route 10 will add mid-day service to Pleasant Hill and provide service in an area that previously had little to no transit access.”
