DEERFIELD NAMES JUSTIN COMER AS NEW EXECUTIVE CHEF

Local Chef Brings More Than 20 Years of Culinary Experience to Senior Living Community

Deerfield welcomes Justin Comer as its new executive chef at the senior living community located in Urbandale. Comer brings more than 20 years of culinary experience, serving in top roles at several local restaurants.

“Deerfield already has a great reputation for their dining, and I’m looking forward to building upon its success,” said Comer. “My main goal is to ensure that residents enjoy an ambience and dining experience similar to what they’d find in a first-class restaurant.”

As a culinary veteran in the Des Moines area, Comer has worked as an executive chef at Centro and as the chef at Basils Restaurant and Bistro 43. He was a banquet cook at the Des Moines Golf & Country Club and, most recently, served as executive chef and kitchen supervisor for Sodexo.

“Chef Justin has extensive knowledge of the kitchen and has had success in a variety of dining venues including fine dining, casual dining and catering,” said Roger Fanska, director of dining services at Deerfield. “With his passion for food and a great tie to the Des Moines area, we look forward to having Justin join our culinary team.”

Comer is a culinary arts graduate of Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, and received an associate of arts degree in political science from Des Moines Area Community College in Ames, Iowa.
