Did Rain Keep Hawkeye Fans Away from Valley Stadium?
The Iowa Hawkeyes road tripped to West Des Moines' Valley Stadium for a spring practice Sunday. Tickets were snapped up last week, but not everyone turned out.

More than 13,000 fans were expected to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes during their spring football practice Sunday at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines, but officials estimate only 8,000 showed, WHO-TV reports.
Fans with tickets were warned they might not get a seat because Valley Stadium can’t hold as many people as tickets distributed. Luckily, all fans were able to find a seat and some seats were still left empty.
Hawkeye fan Amanda Meek told the TV station, “It was about three fourths of the way full; it was as big as they were predicting it to be.”

Many fans said the gray skies and occasional rain kept some Hawkeye boosters away.
“I don’t know if it was the weather or what, but we didn’t have 13,000 fans. The ones we did have obeyed the rules had no problems had no issues and from a public safety stand point it went very well,” Lt. Jim Barrett of the West Des Moines Police Department told the TV station.
