Don’t Freak Out When You Hear Ominous Sound this Morning
Sirens are meant to prepare residents for spring storms.

There are times when the sound West Des Moines residents will hear between 10 and 10:30 a.m. should cause them to seek shelter.
This won’t be one of them.
A statewide tornado drill is planned as part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week which is being observed across the state.

The exercise in Polk County will consist of a simulated tornado watch being issued around 10 a.m., followed by a simulated warning at 10:15. The outdoor warning sirens will be activated across Polk County at 10:15 and Polk County Emergency Management is encouraging all schools, businesses and governments to participate in concert with this drill.
If severe weather threatens today, the test will be delayed until Thursday.
