Dowling Catholic Falls to Iowa City at State Volleyball Tourney: PHOTOS

The No. 5-ranked Dowling Catholic Maroons lost to No. 4 Iowa City High 26-24, 20-25, 25-16, 25-22 Nov. 7 in a Class 5-A quarterfinal at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

The Maroons had never reached the tournament before, according to the Des Moines Register.

Dowling had a 33-11 record befor facing City High, 30-8. 

Elise Brown led Dowling with 15 kills, the newspaper said, while Brooke Reichart and Mary Jess Heddinger each added 11. Anne Buscher led the Maroons with 16 digs; Jessi Henter had 45 assists.

Dowling returned to West Des Moines with its first state volleyball trophy.

“I told the girls that I wouldn’t want to coach anyone else,” Dowling coach Mary Beth Wiskus told the Register. “The worst part is after a weekend, not being around them on Monday.”
