Dowling Catholic Students Learn How the World Eats – or Doesn't – at Hunger Banquet
Half of attendees sat on the floor and were fed rice and water. Fifteen percent got the royal treatment.

Nearly 200 students and adults attended the recent Dowling Catholic High School Hunger Banquet.
Guest speaker Thomas Awaipo, from the Republic of Ghana in West Africa talked briefly about world hunger. Thomas shared his personal experience of growing up in poverty and hunger. Attendees were then broken into three groups that represent the economic status of the world population.
Half of the people attending sat on the floor and were fed rice and water; 35 percent were given chairs and fed rice, beans, and water; 15 percent were seated at tables, with tablecloths, centerpieces and fed chicken, salad, bread, a brownie, and lemonade.
Students were then invited to share their thoughts and feelings concerning the banquet.
