The Varsity Maroons went on the road for the past two meets and came away 1-1 running thier season record to 2-1 and in the process moved to #7 in the State Rankings. In the first meet, DCHS overcame a strong start by Roosevelt to thump the Rough Riders. The Maroons were led by Ann Marie Westercamp, McKenna Pierce, Megan Lilly, Margaret Engel, and Hannah Williamson. The matchup versus the very talented Ankeny (still one team) squad proved too much for the Maroons. DCHS kept the meet close throughout even though they could only muster two first place showings as Westercamp (50 free) and Pierce (500 free) captured gold. It was the depth of the squad that kept them in the running as the Maroons took 2nd and 3rd in the first three events: 200 medley relay A (Pierce, Caroline Dee, Lilly, Savannah Orewiler), and B (Gianna DeMarco, Anushi Wilayagudrathe, Alison Carmody, Bailey Renger); 200 free (Pierce and Juliette Sanders); and 200 IM (Lilly and Jaena Delahunt). After Lilly took third in the 100 Fly, Williamson and Orewiler took 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 100 free. Megan Siembieda added to Pierce's win in the 500 free with a 3rd place finish and the meet was tied at 55! When the Maroons captured 2nd and 3rd in the 200 free relay (Westercamp, Lilly, Orewiler, Williamson) and (Carmody, Dee, Delahunt, Siembieda) they had taken the lead. However, Ankeny proved resilient, taking the top two spots in the 100 Back and all three top spots in the 100 Breast to clinch the meet.
Next up for the Maroons are the always tough #2 ranked Johnston Dragons.
The junior varsity Maroons also went 1-1 in the past week, winning convincingly at Roosevelt and coming up just short at Ankeny. The Maroons were led by Salem Weresh, Emily Miller, Katie Severino, Rebecca Naughton and Bailey Renger versus Roosevelt. Against the combined Ankeny squad, Wilayagudrathe (200 IM) was the only individual winner. The 200 medley relay team of Weresh, Miller, Severino and Syndey Goodell also captured 1st. Solid individual efforts were also recorded by Naughton (200 free - 3rd), Weresh (200 IM- 2nd, 100 back- 2nd), Katie Carpenter (200 IM -3rd), Haley Egan (50 free- 2nd, 100 back- 3rd), Goodell (100 fly- 2nd), Anne Gradoville (100 fly-3rd), Jacqueline Pose (100 free- 3rd), and Miller (100 breast- 2nd).
