Dunkin’ Donuts Open Today in West Des Moines; Grand Opening Planned Nov.9

Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s favorite all-day, everyday stop for coffee and bakery goods, will celebrate the grand opening of its new restaurant at 1301 Eighth St., West Des Moines, on Nov. 9. Mayor Steve Gaer, Police Chief Shaun LaDue and KKDM-FM will be on site to help commemorate the event.

The franchise is open for a "soft opening" as of today, according to the news release

Beginning at 7 a.m. on Nov. 9, Central Iowa Shelter and Services staff and volunteers will be on hand to give free coffee coupons and free Dunkin' Donuts travel mugs to each person who brings three food items, a clothing item or cash donation through 11 that morning. From 8-10 a.m., KKDM-FM will broadcast live from the restaurant, with special promotions and activities for guests.  At 9 a.m., Gaer and LaDue will join the group for the ribbon cutting.

The new restaurant, owned and operated by Drew Cownie, will be the first Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in the area since 1972. The new restaurant features a drive-through and employs approximately 50 people. Store hours of operation will be 5 a.m.–9 p.m., seven days a week, with the drive-through operating 24 hours. 

The menu will offer guests the same high-quality, great-tasting beverages that can be enjoyed throughout the day, including freshly brewed hot and iced coffee, lattes, Coolatta® frozen drinks, and more.

In addition, guests can look forward to signature Dunkin’ Donuts menu items such as bagels, donuts, muffins and breakfast sandwiches, plus new all-day products such as egg and cheese wraps, hash browns and bakery sandwiches.

Cownie, who currently lives in Des Moines, is a former teacher with Des Moines Public Schools and Dowling Catholic High School. He was a general manager and helped open Doc’s Restaurant in West Des Moines and currently owns the Bird’s Nest restaurant on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. He graduated from Creighton University and holds a masters degree from Drake University.
