BoosterPak Event/ WDM Chamber After Hours

I would like to invite you to a fun event for a very serious cause that impacts children in our community.  BoosterPak’s mission is to help at risk students in the West Des Moines Community Schools reach their fullest potential by reducing childhood hunger and promoting health and wellness.  This charity currently serves over 600 students in the West Des Moines school district. BoosterPak provides these children with food to take home on the weekends.  There are no congregate meal sites in West Des Moines that are open on the weekends.  Without the food BoosterPak provides, many of these children would go hungry on the weekends.  If going hungry on the weekend is not bad enough, many of these children suffer needlessly from the additional problems caused by their circumstances including:

·         Hungry children suffer from four times as many health problems

·         Hunger has a negative impact on the children’s ability to learn

·         Children who are hungry or undernourished have more difficulty fighting infection.  Therefore, are more likely to become sick, miss school and fall behind in  class.

·         Increased likelihood of social and behavioral problems in school.
