Found Treasures a Holiday Find That’ll Be Good for Your Soul
The Valley Junction thrift store supports Beacon of Life, a charity that helps helps women turn their lives around.
Looking to stretch your holiday dollars, snag a sparkly party dress for a song and help out a good cause at the same time?
Found Treasures, located at a prime at 132 Fifth St., is brimming with gently used holiday merchandise at prices that won’t break the bank. After rent and utilities are paid, all proceeds go to help provide shelter, food and education for women living at Beacon of Life, a long-term transitional facility serving up to 34 women.
The four-month program offers assistance in the areas of financial literacy, budgeting, developing healthy relationships, parenting, moving past abuse, and substance abuse counseling.
Some of the merchandise is brand new, including a rack of party dresses donated by , a longtime fixture in the Des Moines area, and the high-end down the street at 114 Fifth St.
“We have nice holiday dresses that have only been worn once or twice,” said Ruth Paflas, the managing volunteer. “They’re like new.”
Found Treasures, as its name suggests, also has shelves full of one-of-a-kind holiday decor items, as well as an assortment of household goods and gift items.
