Free Phone App Lets West Des Moines Residents Report Potholes, Road Kill

The free app for Android phones and iPhones lets residents report problems the city needs to fix, including potholes, street lights that are out, and dead animals that crews need to remove.

A free app created by a Dubuque company allows West Des Moines residents to use their smart phones to report problems ranging from potholes to street lights that are out to dead animals that need to be removed, reports WOI-TV

"It's a direct connection from the resident back to us," the city's Deputy Public Works Director, Joe Cory. told the TV station.

The free app, called YourGOV, was created by the Dubuque, IA company, Cartegraph. It can be downloaded on an iPhone or Android and lets the city know if you see a problem.

For example, if you saw a pothole on E.P. True Parkway, you would pull over, and click on the app. The GPS on your phone would locate where you were and then you can take a picture of it, or describe the problem and send it on to the city within a couple of minutes, the stations reports.

Cities and counties in Colorado and Texas have started using the Iowa-based app. But West Des Moines is the first city in Iowa to adopt it, according to WOI.
