Get Some Sand Between Your Toes, Celebrate Character, Network and Get the Scoop on Neighborhood Changes

Every week, West Des Moines Patch previews some events you won't want to miss.

As July rolls to an end, here’s a look at some of the things to keep on your radar in West Des Moines:

Monday: Get some sand between your toes. Free sand volleyball starts at 7 p.m. at Jordan Park Camp, 2251 Fuller Road. It’s free and open to adults. Come as a team or as an individual. There’s a spot for everyone. Need more information? Call (515) 306-9142.

Tuesday: The West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce offers a networking opportunity from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hilton Garden Inn, 205 74th St.

Wednesday: Want the inside scoop on development activities before City Council approval? The West Des Moines Plan & Zoning Commission, which meets from 5:30-8 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, has several items on its agenda.

Thursday: The West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce’s monthly membership meeting is from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Des Moines Golf and Country Club, 1600 Jordan Creek Parkway. It’s a Young Professionals networking event.

Friday: The Iowa Character Counts banquet will be held at 6 p.m. at Hy-Vee Conference Center, 5820 Westown Parkway. Reservations are required by phone at (515) 271-2931. This annual event includes the presentation of Iowa Character Awards, which have been presented to more than 100 individuals and organizations since they were established in 2005. The awards highlight the best among us - those who do the right thing, even when no one is looking. Their stories inspire us and provide a renewed sense of pride in our state. More information
