Growing church getting additional parking

Growth is precipitating some changes on the campus of First Baptist Church of Greater Des Moines in Johnston.

A large new parking lot is being constructed west of the church which is located at 8250 NW 62nd Avenue, just west of Pioneer.

“On many Sundays for the past several months our original parking lot has been full and some of our members and visitors have had to park on the street,” explained Dr. Tim Deatrick, First Baptist’s pastor. The parking lot constructed with the sanctuary in 2002 provides 126 spaces.

“Parking is just a growing pain,” Dr. Deatrick added. “It’s a good pain to have.”

The new concrete parking lot will hold 97 vehicles and is located west of the church building, just south of NW 62nd Avenue. Completion is expected by autumn.
