Horseplay on Escalator Causes $7,000 Damage: West Des Moines Police Blotter

Video shows what happened after teen-ager jjumped on escalator rail at Jordan Creek mall.

Damage caused by horseplay on an escalator at Jordan Creek Town Center will cost about $7,000 to repair, according to a report on file at the West Des Moines Police Department.

Video surveillance caught the incident on tape about 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 16. It shows a group of young men believed to be in the 16-20 age range on the escalator near the Younker’s store. One of them sat on the moving rail and then fell backward, causing the glass walls to shatter.

The suspects took off, leaving the mall through Scheel’s near the other end of the mall.
