A news release from the West Des Moines Police Department:
Saturday is the start of Spring Break for West Des Moines Schools and with many families leaving on vacation; it is important people take precautions to avoid having their home broken into while they are gone.
- You should let someone you trust know where you are going, contact information and when you will be returning.
- Have a trusted friend or neighbor pick up mail and deliveries. Make arrangements for the lawn to be mowed or snow to be removed. Have a neighbor park their car in your driveway.
- Give your house a “lived in” appearance by using timers to run lights and to turn a radio on and off during various hours. If you have an attached garage, make sure the access door to the house is locked. Turn on your home alarm system if you have one. Don’t leave valuables in any vehicle, locked or unlocked.
