Des Moines, Ia— September 16, 2013 —For the third straight year, Waste Management has set a new recycling record at the Iowa State Fair. Waste Management of Iowa recycled nearly 35 tons of waste at the 2013 State Fair, surpassing their 2012 record of 29 tons. This number represents an additional diversion of trash from landfills by 15 percent. In the last three years, the Iowa State Fair has almost doubled the recycling rate since 2011.
“Waste Management of Iowa is excited to see the success of our state fair recycling efforts continue to grow,” said Lisa Disbrow, Waste Management of Iowa spokesperson. “Our goals this year were not only aimed at increasing recycling at the event, but also educating attendees and encouraging them to recycle when they left the fairgrounds.”

Waste Management partnered with Keep Iowa Beautiful again this year to maintain 300 recycling containers throughout the fairgrounds. Waste Management worked with vendors at the fair to encourage recycling, and launched an educational program for the 1200 campers in the campgrounds that led to more than 8.6 tons of recycling in that area alone.
