Is the Next Iowa Teacher of the Year in West Des Moines?

Applications are due April 26 for award honoring Iowa's most exceptional and innovative teacher.

Applications for the 2014 Iowa Teacher of the Year are due April 26, according to an announcement on the

West Des Moines Community School District’s web site.

The Teacher of the Year program recognizes an exceptional Iowa teacher who is helping to redefine education. It is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Education and through an appropriation from the Iowa Legislature.

Nominations may be made by anyone, including students, parents, school administrators, colleagues college faculty members

Winners are chosen by a committee that includes representatives of the Iowa Department of Education, the Iowa State Education Association, the School Administrators of Iowa, the Parent Teachers Association and the current Iowa Teacher of the Year, Tania Johnson of Cedar Rapids.
