The Filling Station, located at 305 Grand Ave., is in the "old" part of West Des Moines. A classic gas station in a former life, it’s now a townie dive bar, a high compliment, according to the regulars.

Televisions, pool tables and dart games give it a sports bar feel, but there’s also a small dance floor to rub bellies with your baby to an old favorite on the jukebox and a patio where you can raise a pint and spin a yarn on a hot summer night.
The Filling Station is open daily from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.
