Jethro's Bacon Melt Gets National TV Exposure Tonight

The "Waukee" Jethro's in West Des Moines will be featured on the Discovery Channel.

A locally favorite sandwich could become nationally famous – or infamous, depending on your point of view – after tonight’s episode of The Discovery Channel’s “United States of Bacon.”

Jethro's BBQ n' Jambalaya’s BLT Melt will be featured on the program. It’s not an ordinary melt, but a half pound of cured bacon and three kinds of cheeses sandwiched between two pieces of Texas-sized toast, KCCI reported.

The program airs at 8 p.m. CST tonight on the Discovery Channel's “United States of Bacon.” Each episode features “hog-wild host Chef Todd Fisher as he road trips to cities across America in search of the most mouth-watering, stomach-growl-inducing, sensory-overloading bacon creations kitchens have to offer,” according to a Discovery Channel news release.

Fisher also visited two other metro area restaurants, Zombie Burger in Des Moines’ East Village, and Kelly’s Little Nipper on East Grand Avenue, also in the East Village, for the program, according to KCCI.

Jethro’s was in the news recently when the local chain, which operates the “Waukee Jethro’s” in West Des Moines, hosted a Nebraska woman who gobbled down the restaurant’s Adam Emmenecker Challenge sandwich.

It makes the BLT Melt look small.

The sandwich includes five pounds of sandwich and fries featuring a huge pork tenderloin, Angus steak burger, slabs of Texas brisket, applewood bacon and fried cheese, finished with buffalo chicken tenders. The sandwich is topped with melted cheddar cheese, and white cheddar sauce, topped with a spicy pickle.

The Discovery Channel is available to most Mediacom, DirecTV and Dish Network subscribers.
