WEST DES MOINES – West Des Moines City Councilman Kevin Trevillyan announced today that he will be seeking re-election as First Ward City Councilman, pledging to continue his focus on redevelopment and improvements in the established parts of the city, holding down property taxes, maintaining essential city services, and continuing to be available and responsive to residents and their concerns.
“It is an honor to represent the residents of the First Ward. I will be running an extensive grassroots campaign asking for residents’ support and trust once again. My work is not yet done,” said Trevillyan.
Trevillyan, who was first elected in 2009, said that he is proud of his record. Despite being elected in the midst of a weakened economy, Trevillyan held the line on property taxes and maintained essential city services. In addition, while Kevin supported measures that have led to growth and expansion in the western parts of the city, including the expansion of Wells Fargo and Microsoft, he also fought hard for continued redevelopment and revitalization in the established areas of the city. “While new growth and development out west is very important, we can never forget the importance of taking care of what we’ve got!” Trevillyan stated.

Kevin has continually stressed the ongoing need for beautification and maintenance of the Valley Junction area as well as maintenance and rehabilitation of existing parks, streets and sewers throughout the First Ward. He has worked to help bring events and visitors to Valley Junction, keeping the area vibrant. Trevillyan worked to complete the landscaping along Railroad Avenue, which includes the public art pieces depicting the railroad era in West Des Moines. He supported the city’s efforts in renovating the original city hall on 5th Street so that generations to come can learn about where city government, the police and fire departments started. In addition, Kevin supported the redevelopment on Grand Avenue from 1st to 4th Streets as well as the redevelopment of 8th Street near the freeway. This has helped to bring in new businesses, jobs, and amenities and has created an overall revitalization of these areas.
Kevin was a strong advocate for the new Polk County Westside Community Center that will soon be built at the corner of 6th and Maple. He also worked hard in getting the city to recognize the fact that the Human Services Department needed more space and to make the decision to relocate them to the former Wright Tree Service Building at 6th and Maple.

Trevillyan, who campaigned in 2009 as being “Your Voice” on the City Council has lived up to that pledge. Since being elected, he has held quarterly Town Hall meetings with the residents of the First Ward as well as anyone else who wished to attend. “I am delighted to be able to talk with the residents on any topic involving the City of West Des Moines. Residents like to be able to talk with their City Councilman, Trevillyan stated.” “Talking with residents has been the foundation for my service on the council. It is not my job to represent my own interests on the council, rather it is my job to hear their concerns and represent the interests of the people who elected me. There is no better way to do this than by talking with residents at these Town Hall meetings or anywhere else, said Trevillyan.”
Born and raised in the First Ward, Trevillyan has always had a strong involvement in West Des Moines. He served 10 years with the West Des Moines Emergency Medical Services and has worked for West Des Moines Water Works for 25 years. Trevillyan is very involved in the activities in West Des Moines.
