Last Licks Ahead for West Des Moines Maggie Moo’s Ice Cream Customers
Increased competition, poor location signal end to two decades of sweet treats.

The Maggie Moo’s ice cream franchise store is ending it’s 19-year run in West Des Moines’ Clocktower Square and customers have until Oct. 31 to get their licks in.
Local franchise owner Tim Willcockson said increased competition from frozen yogurt chains, an aging store in a poor location, and a still sour economy all contributed negatively to the sweet treat shop’s bottom line, the Des Moines Register reported.
In addition to competition from at least four frozen yogurt stores, some with multiple locations in the metro area, vacancies in Clocktower Square also contributed to the shuttering. “There are vacancies in the center we’re in and the foot traffic isn’t the same as it used to be,” Willcockson told the newspaper.
He and his wife, Deb, bought the store seven years ago, becoming the third owners of Maggie Moo’s at that location.
Gift cards will be honored until the close of business.
