Memorial Day Weekend Activities: Smokin’ in the Junction Heats Things Up
For some, barbecue and Memorial Day are two sides of the same coin.The Historic Valley Junction combines them with popular sanctioned competition.
Four dozen competitors will bring out their best rubs and special sauces in a Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned competition in Historic Valley Junction this weekend.
The fifth annual 2013 Smokin’ in the Junction BBQ Contest takes place from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Besides the competition, which includes $13,000 in awards for the 48 competitors and a $1,500 prize for the grand champion, the festival includes live music, food vendors, kids’ activities, inflatables and a beer garden.
