Nanny Tells West Des Moines Police She’s Being Harassed by Urbandale Mom

After she gave notice and quit, her employer allegedly posted an uncomplimentary reference on a nanny site and now she's locked out.

West Des Moines police took a report Monday from a 21-year-old resident who said she’s being harassed by a former employer and is unable to get nanny jobs because of it.

The alleged victim said she had been working as a nanny for an Urbandale woman since September, but quit on Oct. 12 after giving two weeks’ notice. She said she had been paid all wages owed to her on her final day.

Then, the following Monday morning, the woman’s former employer called and wanted to know where she was. The victim told police that she didn’t respond, but when she checked the website where she gets her referrals, her former employer had posted an unfavorable reference and now she’s been “permanently kicked off the site,” according to Officer Gwen Fasano’s report.

The nanny said she also has received numerous text messages from her former employer “accusing her of stealing things and threatening her,” Fasano wrote.

The West Des Moines woman has asked her former employer to cease contact, but is still receiving text messages, Fasano reported.
