Norwalk Transitions to Westcom Dispatch Without Service Interruption
The dispatching system serves West Des Moines, Urbandale, Clive and now Norwalk.

Norwalk’s 911 and public safety dispatching services were transitioned without interruption to Westcom Emergency Communications Center at noon Monday, according to a news release.
The only change Norwalk citizens will notice is that their emergency calls will be answered by a dispatcher at the Westcom Emergency Communications Center rather than the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. They’ll still call 911 for emergency services.
For non-emergency calls, they will call (515) 222-3321, Westcom’s non-emergency number. Previously, they called
Below are appropriate phone numbers for emergency services for residents in the city of Norwalk:
- Emergencies: 911
- Non-Emergency Dispatch: (515) 222-3321
- Police Records/Administration: (515) 981-0666
- Fire/EMS Administration: (515) 981-4316
Westcom Emergency Communications Center now provides emergency dispatching for the cities of West Des Moines, Urbandale, Clive and Norwalk.
Before services were consolidated in January 2001, West Des Moines, Urbandale and Clive all operated their own dispatch centers staffed 24 hours a day at their own expense.
The consolidation not only saves money, but also allows emergency responders to directly communicate with one another during large-scale incidents and accidents rather than trying to communicate via three separate radio systems.
