Olympic Gymnastics Champ Gabby Douglas Wins Another Honor
Gold-medal winning gymnast Gabby Douglas has been named Sportswoman of the Year by the Women's Sports Foundation.

Olympic all-around champion Gabby Douglas has won Sportswoman of the Year honors from the Women's Sports Foundation, according to the Des Moines Register.
Douglas spent the past two years training at Chow's Gymnastics in West Des Moines with Coach Liang Chow, who helped coach Shawn Johnson to Olympic golf in 2008. The work paid off, with Douglas winning individual all-around gold and helping the women's team to a gold medal.
Douglas won the award Wednesday night, beating out Lindsey Vonn, London Olympians Serena Williams, Missy Franklin, Allyson Felix, and Paralympians Jessica Long and Tatyana McFadden. Douglas is the third gymnast to win the award, joining Olympic gold medalists Mary Lou Retton (1984) and Nastia Liukin (2008), the Register said.
Douglas, who is from Virginia, was most recently back in Iowa for an autograph session Oct. 9 at the Urbandale Hy-Vee store as part of a promotional appearance sponsored by Kellogg’s. The company is sponsoring the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Douglas is part of, the tour included an Oct. 12 Des Moines appearance at the Iowa Events Center.
