One more public hearing on DART's proposed fare policy

The hearing is slated to take place at noon on December 2.

From DART offices-The public will have a final chance to provide feedback on a new fare policy at a public hearing with DART Commission, the governing body of the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority. The public hearing begins at noon Tuesday, December 2, in the Multimodal Room of DART Central Station, 620 Cherry Street.

The policy will cover:

• Types of fare media including cash, passes, tokens and smart cards
• New options for daily, weekly and monthly passes
• Transfers for riders paying with cash or tokens
• IMPORTANT NOTE: DART has no immediate plans to raise the price of fares.

The new policy is being developed to prepare for a new fare-collection system for the regional transit authority. A vote to adopt the policy will be held the following month at the January 6 meeting of the DART Commission. The new policy will go into effect in late 2015 or early 2016, to be phased in as part of the installation of new fare boxes on DART buses.
