Police Chief Finalists to be Announced Next Week

The city is narrowing its search for a police chief to replace Jack O'Donnell, who retired in February.

The finalists for West Des Moines police chief will be announced June 28 during a meeting of the city’s Civil Service Commission, according to the Des Moines Register.

Up to four finalists will be selected from the 34 applicants. The next round of interviews will likely include a meeting with the public in mid-July, City Manager Greg Sparks told the paper.

Capt. Larry Richards, a retired patrol commander, has been serving as interim chief since Jack O’Donnell retired in February.
