Despite drizzle and even a real rain shower Sunday morning, residents still showed up in Valley Junction to celebrate Earth Day. Events included a 5K run for adults, a fun run for kids, informational displays and food vendors.,

The seventh annual Earth Day in the Junction Celebration was held despite occasional rain and cool temps Sunday in the area of West Des Moines.

The event included a 5K run/walk, exhibitors, children’s activities, demonstrations, live music and food.
The city had a booth in front of Historic City Hall at 137 Fifth St. that featured displays on energy efficiency upgrades being made to city facilities, native plantings with free seed packets, and a demonstration of a bike trail app being developed for smart phones anticipated to be available this summer.
