Ready, Set, Ride: Valley Junction Prepares for RAGBRAI Influx

The Historic Valley Junction Foundation is presenting a "Totally Tubular Tuesday" street party; look for the West Des Moines Patch tent.

Hop on your bike and grab your neon gear. RAGBRAI, the Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, will be pedaling its way through West Des Moines on Tuesday, making a stop for a Totally Tubular Tuesday party in Historic Valley Junction in West Des Moines.

Totally Tubular Tuesday will include multiple vendors, shops and restaurants in Valley Junction, a beer tent, and will be highlighted by the performance of three bands playing the best of the 1980s music. Patch.com is one of the stage sponsors.

11:30 a.m.: Abby Normal

1:30 p.m.:  Comfort Zone

3:30 p.m.:  Fahrenheit

Residents interested in attending festivities in Valley Junction should park at Hillside Elementary School located at the corner of Eighth Street and Hillside Avenue where a shuttle bus will run a circuit from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., dropping off passengers at the corner of Elm Street and Sixth Street.

The route through West Des Moines will be Raccoon River Drive to Grand Avenue to Railroad Avenue to Fifth Street to Elm Street to Fourth Street to Railroad Avenue to First treet to Park Avenue entering Des Moines.  

Roads will be open except for Railroad Avenue between Firstt Street and Eighths Street and Fifth Street in the 100, 200 and 300 blocks.  

Car traffic on First  Street will be head to head in the two easternmost lanes with RAGBRAI riders using the two westernmost lanes.
