Shawn Johnson and Partner Earn High Marks on 'Dancing With the Stars'

The judges have had their say; now, it's your turn to vote in the second all-star elimination.

Retired gold-medal gymnast Shawn Johnson of West Des Moines drew some of the highest scores of the evening from the judges Monday night for her jive on Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars.

Their score was 25 out of a 30 possible points.

Johnson, who had to retire from gynmastics competition this summer because of a knee injury, has her eyes on another glitter ball trophy in the 15th season of the ABC network’s show. The show airs at 7 p.m. Tuesday on; one couple will be eliminated from the show Tuesday.

Fans can text their support to the 20-year-old gymnast, who claimed the Season 8 title in 2009, at 1-800-868-3402. AT&T cellular customers may text "Vote" to 3402. Also, vote on Facebook.

Johnson is paired with professional Derek Hough. Monday night the duo danced the foxtrot, to mixed reviews from the three judges. This season, judges are allowed to give half points in their scoring, which is new, and Johnson earned some of those numbers.

Judge Len Goodman, typically the most critical of the dancers, said the dance was “just enough jive for me … but with you, I want to see more than enough.” He gave her an 8 out of 10, the lowest of the three judges’ scores.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba called Johnson and Hough the “all-star sweethearts,” and gave the pair an 8.5, as did Judge Bruno Tonioli.

Johnson and Hough finished fourth after the first round.

“Part of me does burn a little not being in the top 3, not getting a medal,” she said in an interview played on the show Monday.

She said she’s “crossing my fingers” that she’ll make it to the Top 3 after tonight’s fan voting.
