Some West Des Moines kids and their moms who aren't ready to give up on summer found a cool spot Wednesday at American Legion Park.
The "spray-ground" is a new playground amenity added this year in the nearly 10-acre park, located at the corner of Fourth and Vine Streets. it's full of mature trees and has a large open play space. It's managed by West Des Moines Parks and Recreation.
Other kids found fun on the half-pipe skateboard ramp, but were told by their mothers to avoid fancy moves because they left their helmets behind.
One of the mothers is a brain injury therapist and her warnings were heeded by the kids, who seemed to enjoy just rolling rocking back and forth on wheels.
