UPDATE: West Des Moines Valley Athlete in Critical Condition; Funeral Pending for Carson Vandeventer
Valley junior Ty Wolf received a serious head injury in a skateboarding accident, according to an email from the district superintendent to parents.

Ty Wolf, a junior injured in a skateboarding accident, is listed in critical condition at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, a spokeswoman there said Tuesday morning.
Wolf, an athlete at Valley who plays football, wrestles and throw the discus in track, received a serious head injury in a skateboarding accident. Nothing further is known about the circumstances of the accident or where it occurred.

officials also told parents Monday of the death of Valley Southwoods Freshman Carson Vandeventer, who died Sunday, one month shy of his 15th birthday. Services are pending at Isles Funeral Home.

Parents of students in received word today of the death of one student and the serious injury of another.
In a message circulated via the district’s “Campus Messenger” email news service, Superintendent Peter Ansingh told parents that a student, Carson Vandeventer, died at his home on Sunday.
Ansingh also told parents about the injury to junior Ty Wolf, who received a serious head injury in a skateboarding accident. He is hospitalized at an undisclosed facility. His condition is not known.
The circumstances surrounding Carson’s death remain under investigation, according to Ansingh. “There is little accurate and confirmed information that can be shared with you at this time,” he wrote.
Valley Southwoods administrators shared the news with students this morning and made counselors available.
Carson was the son of Susan Vandeventer, the coach of Valley High School's Tiger Lillies synchronized swimming team, and her husband, Brian. Carson has two older brothers, Conner, a Valley High School senior, and Craig, a 2008 Valley graduate.
