Tuesday’s the Last Chance to File Federal Taxes Without Penalty
The deadline has been extended to Tuesday, April 17, but make sure you get your return to the Post Office on time.

Do you think you're about to miss the deadline to file your taxes without penalty? Relax, but not too much. The calendar gave you a reprieve.
The deadline to file has been extended to Tuesday, April 17, because the normal April 15 filing deadline fell on a Sunday and Emancipation Day, April 16, is a federal holiday observed in the District of Columbia.
To make sure it’s postmarked on time:
- West Des Moines’ main , located at 530 Fifth St. will remain open until 5 p.m. The last pickup from outside mailboxes is 5:30 p.m.
- The last pickup at the Post Office at , 555 51st St., is 4:15 p.m.
- The last pickup at the Post Office at , 1725 Jordan Creek Pkwy., is 4 p.m.
