Two Seek to Fill Ward 2 Vacancy on West Des Moines City Council
Lucas Casey and John Mickelson will square off in a special election on Feb. 12.

The deadline passed Friday and two candidates have filed to fill the Ward 2 seat on the West Des Moines City Council in a special Feb. 12 election.
Candidates are Lucas Casey and John Mickelson.
Mickelson announced shortly after Charles Schneider, the previous Ward 2 council representative, was elected to fill Iowa Senate District 22. A West Des Moines native, Mickelson is a banker and college night-class teacher who moved back home for career opportunities in 2010 with his wife, Brooke, and their children.
What questions do you have for the candidates? What issues would you like for them to address? Tell us below in the comments.
Casey is director of institutional accountability and compliance at AIB College of Business in Des Moines. When he announced his candidacy earlier this month, he said the council vacancy offers a unique opportunity for a newcomer to become involved in city government. He and his wife, Lindsay, moved to West Des Moines last year.
The winner of the race will fill Schneider’s unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2015.
