(Update): Check Out What Whole Foods Says About Supporting Local Growers
Facebook fans are chiming in with likes, kudos and a growing wish list for the store, which opens next week in West Des Moines.

Whole Foods, the world's largest organic and natural foods retailer, will be opening its first Iowa store next week at 4100 University Ave. in West Des Moines.
Can’t wait for that wholesome decliciousness?
Whet your appetite by “liking” the West Des Moines store’s Facebook page.
Whole Foods has been keeping folks appraised of preparations for opening day on the page. For example, the bakery and prepared foods staff has been training at the Minnetonka, MN, store. We’ll get a preview of what that means at a “bread-breaking” – that’s Whole Foods-speak for ribbon cutting – ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 18.
The store opens to the general public at 9 a.m. that day.
What are folks excited about?
“I can’t wait for some chocolate croissants! July 18th in West Des Moine – yippee!,” Angela Fogel posted.
“All I know is that Whole Foods has the best melt-in-your-mouth breads ever,” added William A. George. “Can’t wait.”

In another post, he commented: “I’ve told everyone I know that you need to go to Whole Foods. You're gonna love it! Been waiting years for this.”
The page also notes that the produce “team puts heart, soul, seed, leaf and roots into how they prepare and display product. Practice makes perfect, and we won't offer you anything less than that!”
The produce they’re practicing with is donated to local charities. That comment earned a “like” from Lindsay Grace Mabe and West Des Moines Patch, and kudos from Pat Earnhardt, who commented:
“I just love what Whole Foods stands for - that is why you are such a success. Makes me proud to shop there …"
There’s more, including a contest to let fans help choose the name of an exclusive Java Joe’s CoffeeHouse coffee blend roasted in nearby Des Moines. The contenders?
- River of the Monks Roast
- Water Tower Blend
- Skyline Blend
- Valley Junction Roast/Blend
- Biker’s Roast/Blend
And the winner is …
River of the Monks Roast seems to be winning, but you’ll have to wait until next week to get the answer.
