WEST DES MOINES –
Children and families will be able to learn about water, weather safety and
more at the second annual Health and Safety Family Night, sponsored by the
Early Childhood Education Committee for the West Des Moines United Methodist
Preschool and Parents’ Morning Out program.
The free
family-friendly event is open to the public and will take place from 5 to 7
p.m. Tuesday, April 29 in the church parking lot, 720 Grand Ave. in West Des
Moines. Activities will take place inside the church if weather does not
cooperate.

Hospital’s severe weather safety house, where children can learn what to do in
the event of severe weather or a tornadoWest Des Moines
Emergency Medical Services, which will have an ambulance on display for viewing
along with Pete the Paramedic

helicopter, which is tentatively scheduled to land during the event, pending
weather and no emergency calls.
Representatives
from Blank Children’s Hospital’s outreach nutrition program, a Hy-Vee dietician,
a chiropractor, a doctor, representatives from the West Des Moines United
Methodist Church’s Lifetree Café, West Des Moines Physical Therapy, Heartland
Area Education Agency, West Des Moines United Methodist Church’s Christian
education program; a dentist; Betty Hill Dance and the YMCA, who can answer
questions about ways to keep children healthy through eating habits, exercise
and health care.
The Iowa
Department of Natural Resources, which will discuss life jacket safety and show
a dam simulation so children and families can understand water safety.
