Weather Alert: Triple Digit Temps, Dangerous Weather in the Week Ahead

Unbearable temperatures forecast for Monday and Tuesday, with warmer-than-usual weather forecast through Labor Day.

A heat advisory remains in effect for central Iowa, including West Des Moines, until 10 p.m. Tuesday a d heat indices are expected in the triple digits, the National Weather Service said.

Sunday’s high was in the upper 90s, with warmer temperatures forecast for Monday and Tuesday. The temperature could reach 102 Monday and Tuesday, with heat indices generally of 105 to 110 in the peak of the day. The humidity will also remain high

“This will have a cumulative effect of heat stress, particularly for those without air conditioning or engaging in outdoor activities,” according to the advisory.

Little change is expected over central and southern Iowa into the Labor Day weekend, with highs remaining in the 90s.

The unseasonably warm, dry weather is expected to continue through Labor Day – good news for boaters and others who want one last weekend at the lake, but bad news for drought-stressed lawns and gardens. There’s no rain in the forecast.
