Weather Alert: Winter Storm Saturn Likely to Make for Icy Commute
West Des Moines is under a winter weather advisory.

Careful when you step out the door. It could be slick underfoot and your commute could be nasty.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines said Sunday that Winter Storm Saturn will offer a wintery mix this morning, beginning about 5 a.m. Snowfall overnight was expected to be around an inch before changing to freezing rain.
Mindy Beerends, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told the Des Moines Register that freezing rain will continue to about 9 a.m., then switch over to all rain toward noon. As temperatures begin dropping this afternoon, snow is expected to return and continue into Tuesday.
Here’s the seven-day forecast for West Des Moines from the National Weather Service:
Today: Snow likely, possibly mixed with freezing rain before 9 a.m., then rain or freezing rain likely between 9 a.m. and noon, then rain likely afternoon. Cloudy, with a high near 36. East southeast wind 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Tonight: Freezing rain before 9 p.m., then snow. Low around 26. East northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Tuesday: Snow likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 31. Windy, with a north northwest wind 11 to 16 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. Windy, with a north northwest wind 11 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 29.
Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15.
Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38.
Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 43.
Friday night: A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41.
Saturday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30.
Sunday: A 40 percent chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 45.
