West Des Moines Actors, Playhouse is Auditioning for 'Sunset Boulevard'

Auditions for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard will be held at the Des Moines Community Playhouse at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 15.

Those auditioning should bring a prepared solo; an accompanist is provided. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast. Questions about auditions should be directed to Robin Spahr at (515) 974-5365.

Sunset Boulevard contains feature roles for six men and two women, ages 16 and up, as well as an ensemble of men and women, ages 16 and up.

Performances will be Sept. 7-30. Sunset Boulevard is directed by John Viars, with music direction by Jeremy Randall and choreography by Alison Shafer.

This magnificent tale of unfulfilled ambition features faded silent movie star Norma Desmond, who longs to return to the big screen. When Norma meets Joe Gillis, a struggling Hollywood screenwriter, they develop a passionate and volatile off-screen relationship that leads to a tragic conclusion.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
