West Des Moines Dowling Catholic in Hunt for Class 5A Girls’ Basketball Title: Game Time, How to Get Tickets

It’s girls’ state basketball week in Iowa and one West Des Moines school is aiming for a state title in a newly created division that increases the number of teams coming to the Capital City for the weeklong tournament.

No. 8 Dowling Catholic (19-4) and No. 4 Des Moines East (21-2) meet in the new Class 5A in the quarterfinals Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union created the 5A division in 2011 and the changes take effect for the first time at this week’s basketball tournament, the Des Moines Register reported. With the addition of the class, there will be 40 teams competing for titles in the five division.
