West Des Moines Offers Scrap Appliance, Paper Shredding Event
Recycling esvent is mostly free, but some items will be disposed of for a fee.

The city of West Des Moines is offering a scrap appliance and metal drop-off and paper-shredding event Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Public Works facility, 560 S. 16th Street. Hours are from 8 a.m. to noon.
Items that will be accepted free of charge include:
- Water heaters, washers and dryers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves, furnaces, game systems, air conditioners, microwave ovens, back-yard grills, riding and push lawn mowers, VCRs and DVRs, computer CPUs, batteries, humidifiers and dehumidifiers, printers and copiers, exercise equipment, cell phones and general scrap metal.
These items will not be accepted:
- Appliances filled with food, tires, plastics, garbage propane tanks, chemicals or paint, water softeners, wood furniture and light bulbs.
Computer monitors and televisions will be accepted for a fee:

- 18 inch and under, $ 7
- 19-inch to 25-inch, $12
- 26-inch to 32-inch, $17
- 33-inch to 40-inch, $22
- 41-inch and up, $27
- Console televisions, $27
Midwest Recovery is partnering with the city of West Des Moines in this collection and will provide personnel to assist with unloading.
Greenstar Shredding will have a truck at this event which will shred sensitive documents on site as residents watch.
