West Des Moines Police: Convenience Store Wasn't Target in Robbery, Shooting

Clerk remains hospitalized for "significant," but non-life-threatening wounds.

say they believe the shooting and robbery of a store clerk Monday night was personal and the convenience store wasn’t the target.

“We don’t believe the store had anything to do with this,” said Sgt. Ken O’Brien, police spokesman. “We hope to learn more about the relationship between the victim and the suspect and more about a possible motive.”

O’Brien said police haven’t yet narrowed down the relationship between the shooting suspect – – and the victim, Joshua Pugh, 34.

A warrant has been issued for Jackson’s arrest on attempted murder and first-degree robbery charges. Police urged members of the public not to approach him, as he is considered armed and dangerous, but to instead contact their local law enforcement authorities.

Police were dispatched to the Kum & Go store, 5969 Ashworth Road, about 10:30 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, they found Pugh had been shot. His wounds were non-life threatening, O’Brien said, but were “significant.”

He is recovering from his wounds at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, where he is listed in good condition.

O’Brien said that until Jackson is apprehended, police cannot comment further on the shooting.
