West Des Moines Police Seek Public's Help in Identifying Suspect

Police release a surveillance photo of suspect in theft of woman's wallet.

The West Des Moines Police Department is asking for assistance in identifying the suspect in the theft of a 23-year-old Des Moines woman’s wallet while she was grocery shopping on Dec. 1, according to a press release issued Monday.

Surveillance video shows a white man in his mid-20s with dark hair. Authorities believe that the suspect picked up the woman’s wallet after she left it at a courtesy counter at the Hy-Vee grocery store at 1700 Valley West Drive.

The woman noticed she had misplaced her wallet before she left the store. Within an hour, the victim’s debit card had been used three times for unauthorized transactions before the card was cancelled.

Anyone with information on the suspect should contact Detective Scott Gass at the West Des Moines Police Department at 222-3592 or Polk County Crime Stoppers at 223-1400.
