UPDATE: West Des Moines Police Say Suspect is in Custody

Steven James Brown was taken into custody without incident Thursday.

West Des Moines Police said this morning that Steven James Brown was arrested by the Iowa Department of Corrections Warrant Team at approximately 9:47 p.m. in Thursday the 2300 Block of Hubbell Avenue in Des Moines.

Brown was arrested without incident and transported to the Polk County Jail on the outstanding arrest warrants.

On Thursday, authorities asked for the public’s help in locating Brown, 30, who was wanted on credit card forgery, second-degree theft and identify theft, according to a press release issued Thursday morning.

Police advised the public to consider Brown armed and dangerous. Brown did not escape from custody, but failed to report to authorities as a condition of his parole, authorities said.

Police asked the public not to attempt to approach or apprehend him on their own, but to call thier local police department, according to a news release. The West Des Moines Police Department's non-emergency number is 222-3310.

Brown, a white male, is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

The specific charges against Brown are:

  • Credit card forgery (West Des Moines Police Department)
  • Escape on theft 2nd charge (Polk County Sheriff’s Office)
  • Escape status on identity theft and theft 2nd charge (Iowa Department of Corrections)
