West Des Moines Redbox Rentals: Cops, Spies, a Guru and a Kid Who Won’t Leave
New releases include a timely film about a veteran's journey.

As we’re remembering the price of freedom on Independence Day week, a new Redbox release tells the story of a Vietnam hero who was shunned, then recognized as a hero three decades later.
In Bad Ass, decorated Vietnam hero Frank Vega returns home only to be shunned by society, leaving him without a job or his high school sweetheart. It's not until 40 years later when an incident on a commuter bus (in which he protects an elderly black man from skinheads) makes him a local hero that he is celebrated once again. But his good fortune suddenly turns for the worse when his best friend, Klondike, is murdered and the police aren't doing anything about it.
The film – which stars Danny Trejo, Charles S. Dutton, Joyful M'Chelle Drake, Shalim Ortiz and Ron Perlman – is rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for violence, some torture, pervasive language and some sexual content/nudity.
