West Des Moines Schools Continue with Paper-Based Registration Until Computer Upgrades are Finalized

Parents of elementary students should continue with paper-based registration; online registration will be available to high school students this summer.

Online registration for West Des Moines Community Schools’ 2013-2014 school year won’t begin until mid- to late May because computer upgrades won’t be ready until then, according to a story on the district’s web site.

That affects mainly elementary students, who typically do mail-in registration during February and March. Parents with students in elementary schools will be asked to continue with the paper-based registration received in the mail. When parents return their demographic sheets, those requiring changes or updates will be forwarded to the district registrar for processing.

Online registration won’t fully replace on-site registration at the high school students, but online registration will be available in the summer to assist with the process. But students will still need to report to their schools in August to have their photos taken for their ID bdes, pick up their schedules and attend to other details.

The online process is meant to streamline the process as much as possible, the district said, but not to remove the on-site component.

More questions about how the online registration system will work are answered on the district web site.
