West Des Moines Schools Offering Free Summer Lunch for Kids

Meals will be served at five different locations. There are no income restrictions for children to participate.

The West Des Moines Community Schools Nutrition Department will provide free meals to children this summer from June 10 through Aug. 9 at five different locations. 

Any child 18 years and younger is welcome to eat at any of the locations. There are no income requirements or registration process.

The five locations include:

Stillwell Elementary School

  • Breakfast: 8:30-9:15 a.m.
  • Lunch: 10:30-11:45 a.m.
Hillside Elementary (until July 19)
  • Breakfast: 7:45-8:15 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11-11:45 a.m.
Crestview Elementary
  • Lunch: 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
Phenix Elementary
  • Lunch: noon-12:45 p.m.
American Legion Park
  • Lunch: 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.
The program has been around for more than ten years, and has continued to feed students ever since. The program typically feeds 700 children a day, which totals to 14,000 meals a month. The program offers the same style and type of food as meals during the school year.
