West Des Moines Taking Appliances, TVs and other Difficult-to-Recycle Items
Free paper shredding event is also planned.

The City of West Des Moines is offering its residents an additional opportunity to recycle unwanted items
Residents may bring scrap appliances and metal to the West Des Moines Public Works facility located at 560 S. 16th St. between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday, April 13. A similar recycling event is planned for Sept. 15.

Items to be accepted free:
- Water Heaters
- Washers/Dryers
- Dishwashers
- Refrigerators, Freezers
- Stoves
- Furnaces
- Game Systems
- Air Conditioners
- Microwaves
- Back Yard Grills
- Riding Mowers
- Lawn mowers
- VCR’s /DVR’s
- Computer CPU’s
- Batteries
- Humidifiers/Dehumidifiers
- Printers/Copiers
- Exercise Equipment
- Cell Phones
- General Scrap Metal
Items that will not be accepted:
- Appliances filled with food
- Tires
- Plastics or Garbage
- Propane Tanks
- Chemicals or Paint
- Water softeners
- Wood Furniture
- Light Bulbs
Price list for monitors and televisions:
- 18” and under, $7
- 19-25”, $12
- 26-32”, $17
- 33-40”, $22
- 41” and larger, $27
- Console televisions $27
As Midwest Recovery is partnering with the ity of West Des Moines in this collection, they will provide personnel to assist with unloading. If you have any questions, please call Public Works Department at (515) 222-3480.
Residents are also encouraged bring their paper documents and records to be shredded!
Greenstar Shredding will have truck at this event which will shred your documents as you watch!
West Des Moines’ Spring Clean-Up event will be held the first full week of June on residents’ normal solid waste collection day.
