West Des Moines Woman Claims War Vet Husband Took Off with Their Son

A wife reportedly says her husband's behavior has changed after a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan.

A West Des Moines woman told police last week that her husband left after a fight and took their 2-year-old son with him and she wants the boy back and a no-contact order against her husband.

The man reportedly was heading to his mother’s house in northern Iowa.

According to a Jan. 20 report on file at the the boy’s father, 32, returned about a year ago from a yearlong deployment with the Iowa National Guard in Afghanistan.

The reporting party, who was with her mother and a Dallas County domestic abuse advocate when she notified police, reportedly told Officer Tom Wynn that since her husband’s return, he has been angry, jealous and controls her access to her family and friends.

The woman said that in the past year, her husband has gotten mad and broken things, but hadn’t assaulted her until last week, when he allegedly grabbed her around the neck and pushed her against the wall, leaving red marks. He then left with the couple’s child, according to the report.

The victim said her husband is “seriously into weight training” and takes a supplement he purchases online. She said she wasn’t sure if the supplement, which her husband reportedly takes three times a day, was steroids or testosterone.
